Moyston part of football celebrations

MOYSTON - One hundred and fifty years of football will be celebrated in Moyston on Monday night and on Tuesday.

The celebrations will include a special training night on Monday for the Moyston Willaura Football/Netball Club under the guidance of former Essendon coach and legend Kevin Sheedy, a spit roast dinner and auction to follow and on Tuesday a visit by the National Australia Bank 150 Tour truck, and Channel Nine's Today Show weather team.

Monday's training session for senior, reserves and under 16 players will commence at 5.45pm and will be followed by an open spit roast dinner at 6.30pm.

At 7.30pm a special ticketed event will be held and only limited ticket numbers remain at this stage for the big night.

Kevin Sheedy will speak on the night, while Darren and Brendan McAloon's entry in the MIFF Footy Shorts Film competition `King Wilf and the Pumas' will be screened.

A highlight of the night will be an auction of AFL items which include a signed Collingwood jumper and 10 tickets from the Collingwood Football Club to the club's Harrison Room, for any Collingwood match in 2009 with the exception of Anzac Day.

Melbourne Age football journalists and author Martin Flanigan, author of `The Call' what he described as a novel on the story of Tom Wills and `The Last Quarter' will also speak.

On Tuesday the National Australia Bank 150 Tour truck rolls into town.

Channel Nine's Today Show weather team with Steve Jacob's will also at the Moyston Oval visiting the NAB 150 Tour.

The centre piece of NAB's 150th birthday commemorative activities, this custom built truck hosts a heritage exhibition with images, story boards and interactive activities.

Both NAB and Australian Football are celebrating 150 years in 2008. The Australian Football Experience is an opportunity for football fans of all ages to learn about Australian Football history and participate in football activities.

As part of the celebrations, legend of the game Robert `Dipper' Dipierdomenico and six time premiership winning former Essendon coach, Kevin Sheedy will also be visiting Moyston and participating in the activities.

Between 9am and 11am students from Moyston Primary, Willaura Primary and Great Western Primary school will visit the truck and will take part in a range of interactive activities with AFL Game Development officers that test their handball and kicking skills along with a giant inflatable handball target and The Big Kick and meet the visiting greats of the game.

This is all part of the NAB 150 Tour which is a nationwide tour commemorating the bank's 150th anniversary, allowing NAB to give back to the communities that have been a part of the past 150 years.

The NAB 150 Tour is visiting more than 110 regional towns and cities over eight months, conducting a range of activities designed to educate, entertain and inspire local communities.

All members of the Moyston community are invited attend and visit the NAB 150 Tour and Channel Nine's Today Show weather team including Steve Jacobs, from 5.30am until 8.30am.
