ARARAT - East Grampians Health Service is providing a twelve month Graduate Nurse Program for four Registered Nurses who have graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing degree, providing them with the support and experience required to pursue an exciting and fulfilling career in nursing.

EGHS chief executive officer Nick Bush said the Graduate Nurse Program provides nurses with the opportunity to work in a variety of clinical settings - acute care, aged care, perioperative unit and district nursing service.
"The Graduate Nurses are also provided with a one week rotation in our Primary Care Department to familiarise themselves with the roles of the allied health professionals," he said.
EGHS support nurse Suzanna Rice said that the Graduate Program commenced in February this year, with Registered Nurses Sarah Marx and Wendy Bahl graduating from University of Ballarat, Jayne Fox graduating from LaTrobe University Bendigo and Trent Fiscalini graduating from Australian Catholic University, Ballarat.
EGHS Graduate Nurse Sarah Marx said the first few months of her graduate year had been a fulfilling learning experience in a supportive learning environment, while EGHS graduate nurse Jayne Fox said the graduate program is a great opportunity to consolidate the many skills learnt at university, in a supportive and safe environment.
Ms Rice also explained that graduate nurses are also provided with the opportunity to attend five study days throughout the year. These study days are incorporated with other hospitals within the Grampians region, including Stawell Regional Health and East Wimmera Health Service.
In April Stawell Regional Health conducted the day with educators from both EGHS and SRH providing the presentation content. This also provides the graduates with the opportunity to network with other Graduate Nurses and share experiences and knowledge.
