MOYSTON - The annual Moyston sheep dog trials are on again this year at the Moyston Oval.
The event will be held on March 15, 16 and 17 and a great weekend of entertainment is in store.
In 1928 a bet was made by two men at a bar.
They wanted to prove 'whose sheep dog was better' and so the annual sheep dog trial event began.
Now in their 84th year, the modern sheep dog trials pay homeage to their Irish founders.
Therefore the trials are held on the closest weekend to St Patrick's Day.
The Moyston event is the longest cosecutively run sheep dog trial to be held in Victoria.
The Moyston Sheep Dog Trials are attended by competitors from around Australia.
People attending witness the bond between handlers and their dogs. Each dog is required to work three sheep around a obstacle course, finishing in an enclosed pen.
Food and refreshments are available to purchase over the duration of the weekend, including morning and afternoon teas at $4, as well as lunch at $9 on Friday and Saturday.
Friday night will include a spit roast dinner from $10, beginning at 6pm, with the added bonus of country and western entertainment.
Powered and non-powered camping sites are available, along with other accommodation.
