Floral tribute gets a helping hand

16 Mar, 2010 08:08 AM
ARARAT - Watering Ararat Primary School 800's ANZAC Day floral tribute will soon be a whole lot easier thanks to a generous donation by the Ararat RSL.

Project leader, teacher Jenny Jacobi, said the RSL has generously responded to the school's need for a water tank to help hydrate the marigolds during the summer months.

''We really appreciate the RSL's help. It takes one hour to water every day to keep it going, which is a big commitment,'' she said.

''We have students, families and members of the outside community volunteering their time as the marigolds take a fair bit of looking after.''

Ms Jacobi said the project was progressing well and that she would like to thank all those who have assisted by donating time and materials, including The Ararat Garden Club, Mitre 10, Growmaster Nursery, Russell Hollis and Tom Hamilton.

The creation of an intricate floral display is a long-running tradition at the school, with all students playing a part.

The flowers will be ready to pick two days before ANZAC Day to allow students and volunteers to assemble the tribute.

The process takes a full day to complete and includes the creation of `Lest We Forget' lettering and a rising sun.
