Farm to pub is back on the road

09 Feb, 2010 08:58 AM
REGION - Runners, riders and walkers from around the state are gearing up for the seventh annual Farm to Pub, to be held on Saturday, February 20.

The annual fun run has raised over $10,000 for Beyond Blue in the past three years and organisers are hoping to take the total past $15,000 this year.

Commencing at the Joyce farm in Willaura North, the 16.4 kilometre journey to the Pub is famous for the 10 kilometre stretch of road known as `Sandy Lane'.

Exposed to the sun and wind, weather conditions play a vital part in race times and with the long-range weather forecast being favourable, John Walsh's course record of 65:10 could well be under threat.

The race is however a handicap event, with staggered starts to give all entrants an equal chance. Participation is the aim, with all runners given an equal chance of being first to arrive at the Pub, as felt by last year's runaway winner in Damien McAloon, who is expected to defend his title.

There is 8.2 kilometre run, five kilometre walk and bike categories for those who don't fancy the feature event.

Tim Frampton, from Christian's Bus Company has again donated use of a bus for a `Park and Ride' option to take entrants/volunteers from the Pub to the start line.

Entry fees are $12 or $30 for a family ($15 and $35 if paid on the day). Visit www.farmtopub.org for more information.
