Emergency services boost for Ararat

27 Jul, 2010 08:59 AM
ARARAT - The Ararat SES Unit will purchase a new Light Rescue Truck with the help of the Brumby Labor Government.

In announcing the government assistance, Member for Ripon, Joe Helper, said $62,500 in funding will be provided through the Community Safety Emergency Support Program (CSESP) towards the purchase of the vehicle.

''The Ararat SES Unit performs a difficult and challenging role with distinction and I'm pleased the Brumby Labor Government has backed their efforts,'' Mr Helper said.

''Our emergency services are at the frontline of community safety and it's critical they have access to the resources and equipment they need to get the job done.

''Our VICSES volunteers are fantastic and I take this opportunity to thank them.''

Mr Helper said the CSESP underlines the strength of the partnership between communities, volunteers, emergency services agencies and the Brumby Labor Government.

''Last year there was unprecedented demand through this funding program and the Government responded by doubling the funding available to more than $6.8 million.''

Mr Helper said the grant is part of more than $1 million going to VICSES Units across the state, helping 24 units secure more than $2.1 million in additional equipment.

To date, VICSES units have received 312 grants worth more than $8.5 million through the CSESP, enabling the purchase of almost $15 million in equipment, assets and facility upgrades.

Mr Helper said the Brumby Labor Government stands shoulder to shoulder with Victoria's emergency services.

''As part of our commitment, the 2010/11 State Budget announced a range of measures aimed at further strengthening the state's emergency response capability,'' he said.

''This included a commitment of $11.6 million funding for VICSES to purchase rescue vehicles, road-accident rescue kits and additional pagers.''

The CSESP is a Victorian Government initiative funded through the Community Support Fund (CSF).

Mr Helper praised the efforts of the Ararat SES Unit and the local community in raising $37,000 funding towards the purchase of the vehicle.
