ARARAT - Homicide, drug trafficking and the gangland killings were the focus of a `CSI Night' held at Ararat Performing Arts Centre.
Over 220 people, including police members and their families and members of the general public, packed the Arts Centre to hear three first-hand accounts of different areas of policing.
Detective Sergeant Wayne Woltsche from the homicide squad used D24 emergency call tapes and actual crime scene photos to relay the interesting twists and turns in the case of murdered businessman Peter Shellard.
Detective Inspector Bernie Edwards, head of the Purana Taskforce, discussed the main players in the Carlton and Williams' crews in a chronological recollection of the Gangland killings.
The final speaker was Detective Senior Sergeant Dale Flynn from the drug squad, who offered an intriguing and graphic look at the drug problems facing Victoria and Australia.
All three speakers provided the audience with the opportunity to ask questions or clarify points of interest.
The event was organised by the Marian College Community Support Team as a major fundraiser for the school.
The night was a massive success, raising around $3000 towards future projects at the college.
A number of local businesses helped out the cause by donating prizes for a raffle.
Senior Sergeant Matthew Wood, Officer in Charge of Ararat Police, arranged for the guest speakers to travel up from Melbourne.
