CSI comes to Ararat

25 Sep, 2009 09:45 AM
ARARAT - Marian College will be hosting a Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) evening on October 7, with three senior and experienced detectives from Melbourne to present three different areas of investigations conducted by Victoria Police.

Learn the real story behind the `Underbelly' series and explore the underworld and seedy side of Victoria's crime gangs that deal in drug trafficking and murder.

Detective Inspector Bernie Edwards heads the Purana task Force and will discuss the Melbourne Gangland murders and the formation of Purana Task Force, the current composition of Purana and results obtained since 2003.

The presentation will discuss reasons for the murders, the major issues faced by investigators and the results. The power point presentation will be followed by question and answer time.

Senior Sergeant Dale Flynn from the Drug Squad will also give a presentation on clandestine drug labs and drug trafficking in Victoria.

Detective Sergeant Wayne Woltsche from the Homicide Squad will speak about Peter Shellard who was found bound and murdered in a bedroom of his house in North Caulfield.

The Homicide Squad investigation into Shellard's death explored numerous suspects and associates before centering on Shellard's de-facto partner Shirley Withers.

The presentation outlines how the detectives carried out this investigation and includes a number of photographs and footage obtained during the course of the investigation.

The CSI night will be on Wednesday October 7 at 7.30pm at the Ararat Performing Arts Centre. Tickets are $15 per person, including some light refreshments and are available from Marian College on 5352 3861 or contact Donna Wood on 0409 534 647. The evening is not suitable for those under 15.
