ARARAT - Ararat and district residents celebrated the diversity of the region's culture at an international-themed dinner hosted by the Church of Christ.
Organiser Kate Gason said the event was a great way to celebrate different cultures and invite the community to become involved with the church.
''We have quite a large number of international members in the congregation at present,'' she said.
''The night went really well. We had about 80 people attend, which was our full capacity, more than we expected.''
Those who attended the dinner took a dish to share with the group.
''There was heaps of food, a massive variety to try. The idea was to bring food from your own culture,'' Ms Gason said.
Ms Gason said many people dressed up, either in traditional costumes or costumes representing their country.
There was a range of entertainment, including Bollywood and Chilean dancing, a salsa and jive demonstration and a rousing rendition of `Waltzing Matilda'.
''There was also a variety of games and activities for the kids,'' Ms Gason said.
''We really tried to make it an event for the whole family.''
Ms Gason said this was the second international-themed event hosted by the Church of Christ, and that the church hoped it would become an annual event.
