LAKE BOLAC - The results of a Parks Victoria's Healthy Parks Healthy People Community Group Grant celebrating the people and the lake will be unveiled on Thursday on the foreshore of Lake Bolac.
This grant was awarded in recognition of the Lake Bolac Foreshore Committee of Management's long service history.
To provide better information for visitors a group of community members has contributed their time, knowledge and expertise to the development of a series of storyboards that celebrate the people and the lake.
''These storyboards aim to connect local community and visitors to Lake Bolac's rich human history,'' said Parks Victoria ranger Tony Veit.
There are three storyboards located at the main visitor area near the boatshed and shade sails.
''We will be celebrating the new signs with members of the Foreshore Committee, the Eel Festival Committee, and the Lake Bolac and District Historical Society, and some of the many community members who contributed both photographs and information,'' said Mr Veit.
The signs include:
- A rich traditional lifestyle - outlining the cultural history of the area.
- Buluk/Lake Bolac - a place of pleasure and enjoyment - focusing on the range of activities and history of the lake.
- Caring for the Lake - Caring for Country - talks about caring for the lake and surrounding country.
Similar Healthy Parks Healthy People grants have been awarded to local community groups this year and in previous years to support the annual Lake Bolac Eel Festival and other initiatives that care for the lake, such as re-vegetation and information for visitors.
The Eel Festival will be held this year on March 27 on the Lake's foreshore.
The Healthy Parks Healthy People Grants provide funding for projects that provide mutual benefit to Parks Victoria managed areas and the health and well-being of volunteers and their communities.
''This is a great example of the value of working closely with the community,'' said Mr Veit.
