ARARAT - Jailhouse Rock Festival organisers have made a call to arms, asking Ararat Rural City residents to get on board and help out with the running of the much-loved, annual event.
Established in 1994, the festival is a celebration of all things 50s and 60s. The combination of rock'n'roll music and dancing alongside hot rods, motorbikes and classic cars draws thousands of enthusiasts to Ararat each year.
This year there are some new faces on the organising committee, with Ararat Rural City Councillor, Ian Wilson taking on a convener's role.
The committee has been divided up into a number of sections, with individuals in charge of different events.
The following people will head up sub-committees: Brad Connarty, HiWay 8 Festival; Bernadine and Russell Streeter, hot rod run; Mick and Pauline Johnston, show and shine; Helen Preston, moovin' and groovin' ball; Tim Plush, musical director; Danielle Ryan, rock extravaganza at Alexandra Oval.
Peter and Jenny Hunter are in charge of merchandise and promotions, Tim Plushis the music director and Sam McColl will facilitate the web page and electronic communications.
Cr Wilson encouraged Ararat residents to help out one on one of the sub committees to ensure the 18th annual Ararat Jailhouse Rock Festival is as success.
This year's festival will be held from Friday, March 16 to Sunday, March 18. The festival will be officially launched on Wednesday, March 14 and there will also be a movie presentation at the Astor cinema on the Thursday evening.
Anyone who is able to volunteer should contact one of the event organisers mentioned above, or phone Ian on 0408 348 971.
