ARARAT - There was plenty of foot-tapping at the Ararat Senior Citizen's Centre when Ararat residents were treated to to an afternoon of country and western entertainment.
The Grampians Country and Variety Club concerts are to become a permanent fixture after a three month trial period.
According to event organiser John Ross-Gilder, the crowds have been growing progressively each month, with the most recent concert, held on June 6, exceeding all expectations.
The backing band `Highway' consisting of Wayne Stratton, Darryl Simmons, Arthur Bullow and John Ross-Gilder opened the concert, providing music for a number of artists.
Mabel Gibson led the audience in a good old sing-a-long, followed by local vocalists Stan Reid, Yvonne Dovaston, Ricky Klauss and Glenise Lyall.
The guest performers also put on a top show, and the energetic tunes provided by Billy Simons on keyboards and father and daughter Arthur and Cindy Tassie (on rhythm and bass guitars) got everybody up dancing.
Halls Gap's Joe Grant on accordion, accompanied by mate Bill Dempsey on banjo completed the line up with some classic `golden oldies' and Scottish tunes.
Mr Ross-Guilder congratulated the club's committee, whose efforts and dedication have been instrumental in the success of these events.
He also thanked those people who have encouraged and supported the concerts, and invited interested parties to be part of the next performance.
``This will also be a great concert, so come along and enjoy yourselves!'' Mr Ross-Gilder said.
