ARARAT - Ararat Rural City Council is continuing to support the development of Alexandra Oval as a sporting hub for Ararat despite missing out on round one Regional Development Australia Fund's $4.9 million last year.
Late last year council agreed to submit an expression of interest for round two of Regional Development Australia Funds with a revised project plan and funding proposal.
At its May 2011 meeting, council submitted an application under the RDAF to fund the proposed Alexandra Oval Community and Recreation Centre. Council committed to contribute $1 million towards the then $5,751,471 project that included the new Community and Recreation Centre, two new netball courts with lighting, upgrades to the scoreboard, civil works required for the project, car parking and landscaping.
Council was unsuccessful with this application.
The Project Control Group met in November and identified that the project could be revised to allow for the construction of a community and sports facility at Alexandra Oval Reserve Precinct. The revised project would include:
Construction of a community facility that incorporates a multi-purpose room capable of catering up to 216 people seated, two meeting rooms which would be available for community hire, bar, canteen, kitchen area, foyer, public amenities.
Construction of sports facilities that include change rooms for football/cricket, netball and umpires, public toilets, first aid room, external walkways, landscaping and terracing, parking and access road.
