GREAT WESTERN - Acclaimed singer-songwriter Paul Kelly will headline the next 'A day on the Green' concert at Seppelt Great Western on Saturday February 28 2009.
In what is set to be another wonderful day of great Aussie music, Tex Perkins and The Audreys will be the special guests, with C W Stoneking opening the day.
The upcoming concert is scheduled for February in warmer daylight savings weather, a few months earlier than the Jimmy Barnes April concert earlier this year.
Paul Kelly is a long-time A day on the Green favourite and promoters Roundhouse Entertainment are pleased to have secured him for Seppelt, Great Western. As a storyteller he has few peers, and if he's not an Aussie institution, he comes close!
Songs like 'From St Kilda To Kings Cross', `Careless', 'Before Too Long', 'To Her Door', 'Dumb Things' and 'Last Train' are but a few from what is an extraordinary body of work.
Despite a 25-year career, Kelly's creative juices are flowing as strongly as ever, as evidenced on his incredible last studio album 'Stolen Apples' (July 2007), and 'Cannot Buy A Soul', the album dedicated to the songs of Aboriginal songwriter Kev Carmody performed by the likes of Missy Higgins, Bernard Fanning and The Herd.
There's never a dull moment at A day on the Green shows when Tex Perkins is around! And no wonder given a close inspection of his multi-faceted career.
From the swamp rock of the celebrated 80s Aussie pub kings Beasts Of Bourbon, to the iconic multi-ARIA award-winning The Cruel Sea in the 90s, to the haunting acoustic roots rock of Tex, Don and Charlie to his latest tongue-in-cheek cover band Tex Perkins and His Ladyboyz, this charismatic rocker has continually pushed the boundaries. The irrepressible Tex always guarantees an entertaining show!
The upbeat folk/alternative country sounds of The Audreys will provide the perfect musical accompaniment to the late afternoon summer's day. Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Taasha Coates heads ups the Adelaide five-piece, who use lap steel guitars, banjos and ukuleles to bring their songs to life. A 2006 ARIA win for Best Blues and Roots album for their debut 'Between Last Night And Us', and a capital city tour opening for Pete Murray, signalled the arrival of these folk hipsters. They've just released their new album 'When The Flood Comes' and are back on the road touring extensively.
C W Stoneking was born in the outback town of Katherine and on moving to Sydney as a teenager, discovered authentic blues music and began playing blues guitar.
Appearances at the Queenscliff, Meredith and Falls Music Festivals and his debut 2006 album 'King Hokum' brought him to wider audiences and the word-of-mouth spread about this amazing dobro guitar and banjo player, and raconteur. The new album 'Jungle Blues' draws on the blues of Southern USA and 1920s Calypso music. Stoneking is a very unusual musician who is definitely set for big things, so will kick the day off in fine style.
